At the Natural Canine, Marlene and I promote holistic care. But what does this mean? Our philosophy encompasses home-prepared diets, healthy supplements and a natural lifestyle for your dog. It is not enough to just substitute an herb for a conventional drug. This is not holistic care.

For example if your dog has a runny nose and your vet prescribes Benadryl and you decide to try our homeopathic Nose Relief instead because it is ‘natural’ - what have you accomplished? Well, nothing really. What about the cause of the runny nose?  Was this addressed? If not, then the dog never improves and more drugs are tried.

According to most holistic vets, many physical problems are diet related - poor metabolism being a factor in many illnesses. If the dog continues to eat a processed, lifeless dry food, all the herbs in the world won’t help. Keep in mind your dog is made up of the food it eats.

Wellness (holistic care) involves ALL these important factors:

  • A natural, fresh, wholesome home-prepared diet
  • Fresh air, sunshine and exercise
  • Herbs added to the diet
  • Regular brushing to stimulate the skin (don’t bathe too often!)
  • Activities geared toward the breed
  • Contact with nature
  • There is no SINGLE food, herb or supplement that will create long-term health! Wellness is a combination of all these factors.  Learn More
