The thyroid glands are responsible for control of the body's metabolism. Hypothyroidism, a condition involving an under activity of the thyroid gland leads to a slowing down of the metabolism, affecting almost every body process. The cause may be unknown (possibly genetic) but is generally a form of inflammation of the gland.
Signs and Symptoms
Obesity, lethargy, hair loss, lowered body temperature (dog will seek warmth) and a slow heart rate.
