Case Study - JD
The situation: When I found your web site I was desperate. JD had tested as allergic to practically everything. He was on a special Science Diet and had been receiving allergy shots for eight months. While there had been some improvement around month 4/5, he was going rapidly downhill - itching, scratching, licking and biting. His feet were all red and he had scratched the fur off one side. His coat was oily and left a residue on my hands when I petted him. He also smelled nasty and bathing didn't help.
The recommendation: Marlene and I recommended a gentle cleansing and detox diet to address the root cause of the skin/allergy condition. The skin is your dog’s largest organ of elimination (it’s quite different from our own skin) - its function is to protect your dog from outside elements and parasites but it also acts as a relief valve for metabolic wastes coming from within the body - the skin protects the internal organs. If you can stop the flow of metabolic wastes then you can stop the itching/rash and the skin will heal. Through the diet and herbs you bring the natural digestive and elimination processes back into balance.
The Result: After two months, the itching, biting, scratching and licking has completely stopped. The pads of his feet are fine and his coat is growing back on the sides. I am so grateful I found your site. A million thanks for all your responses to my questions and concerns. I must admit I was nervous about stopping the allergy shots but I felt it was only fair to give your program a chance to work so that meant doing it your way. New Update: Week Eight: 5/10 - No bath. Coat quite oily but odor mostly gone. Scratching only occasionally.
Week Nine: 5/17 - No bath. Some odor from oily coat but we can stand it.
Week Ten: 5/24 - Gave JD a bath today(Day 64) - lots of brown water. Because our weather is dry, my yard gets dusty and the dirt sticks when his coat is oily. There was a real difference this time - much less shedding and no scratching. He smells clean and his fur feels great. Fur appears to be growing back in on his side where he scratched. Four weeks from today(5/25) will be the three months.
Week Eleven: Somewhere between day 40 and Day 64 I think the balance changed and he became more healthy than not. Most of the toxins had worked their way out. It has been one week since his bath and his fur feels great - not oily - and he smells fine. Every time up to and including the Day 40 bath, the oily coat would come back immediately, beginning on the second day after the bath. And the smell would also return quickly.
Over the two months JD lost about 8 pounds. In talking with the vet we decided he should gain back about two pounds so I have increased the amount I am feeding him. I think the Science Diet was very concentrated.
On June 22 it will be three months. At that time what should he be getting in the way of supplements. I will continue to feed him twice a day.
Thank you so much for all your help. I have included two photos so you can see my handsome fella.
Comments: Notice how this took a while to resolve. The problem built up over several years and our approach is not a quick fix but rather a lasting cure - working from the inside pays off!!
