In general, chronic inflammation of the kidneys are caused by bacterial poisons in the bloodstream, for example, accumulations of pus from bad teeth or bacteria from inflamed gums. Bacteria from the blood enter into the kidney and cause damage to them. General symptoms to look for are:
- great thirst
- increased output of water (clear urine)
- weight loss, especially noticible around the neck and back
- a sweetish urine-like smell around the mouth
- occasional vomiting
The apathy cats may experience is related to the fact they are losing proteinsin their urine. In addition, waste products that should be taken care of by the kidneys remain in the body and slowly poison them. A low-protein diet should be fed See our Kidney Support Kit
