Conjuctivitis

Cats have an inner or third eyelid. It serves to protect the eyeball and can cover nearly the entire surface like a membrane. If the third eyelid comes down, it is 'lamed' and this indicates illness. You must not overlook this symptom and should take the cat to your vet.
