There are few things as sad as seeing your dog chew and lick its paws, scratch at its ears, violently shake its head or scratch incessantly. How does this tie to allergies? Many of the substance found in commercial foods have leaked into your dog's bloodstream. Antibodies (IgE) have formed in response to the allergens. As they build up and encounter more allergens the IgE's -explode- and release substances such as histamines, substance P, bradykinin and others. It is these chemicals that cause the clinical signs you see like itching and rashes.
