What is cancer?

Experts classify cancer as an uncontrolled growth of cells on or within the body. It may be localized (harmless or benign) or it may spread to adjacent tissues (malignant). Cancer is a mass of toxins that attack the immune system. When toxins build up, the immune system can no longer recognize abnormal cells when they develop.
